Introduction
Tswalu Kalahari is South Africa’s largest private game reserve, covering an area of over 100,000 hectares.
Discover the beauty of this landscape, its diverse wildlife, and the serenity of what may well be South Africa’s last great wilderness, spending three nights at The Motse Camp and three nights at the brand new Loapi Tented Camp. You’ll enjoy tracking meerkats, desert rhino, horseback safaris, indulging in the Spa, or sleeping under the stars in the special ‘sleep-out’ on this luxuriously exclusive tailor-made safari. This will be a trip to remember!
Itinerary
Day 1 : Johannesburg or Cape Town > Tswalu Kalahari
Transfer by light aircraft to Tswalu Kalahari Airstrip. Transfer to The Motse and settle into your luxurious ‘home’ in the Kalahari for the next three nights.
Stretching for 114,000 hectares across the southern Kalahari, Tswalu is South Africa’s largest private game reserve and a destination in its own right. Dramatically scaled landscapes, breathtaking vistas, diverse habitat with fascinating fauna and flora, and a wide choice of privately guided safari experiences, set the scene for a safari of unparalleled exclusivity and freedom.
Days 2 & 3 : The Motse
The Motse is a luxury camp with 9 luxuriously private guest legae (Tswala for ‘home’) set at the foot of the Korannaberg Mountains with sweeping views of the Kalahari.
Tswalu is malaria-free and has superlative game, offering sightings of some of South Africa’s rarest and most extraordinary wildlife, including desert black rhino, black-maned Kalahari lions, meerkats, cheetah, rare antelopes and possibly the elusive aardvark, aardwolf, pangolin and porcupine. Guaranteed access to a private vehicle, guide and tracker provides guests with the freedom and flexibility to explore the Kalahari’s diverse, game-rich habitats – always with unlimited time at sightings. Besides day and night game drives, complimentary activities include nature walks, animal tracking, horse riding, stargazing, dune breakfasts, sleeping out under the stars, and spending time with habituated meerkats.
The Kalahari is also the ancestral home of the San people (Bushmen). Some of their ancient engravings can be seen at Tswalu; current research suggests these may be among the oldest art on Earth.
Days 4 – 6 : Loapi Tented Camp
Transfer to the brand new Loapi Tented Camp. Suspended between earth and sky, Loapi evokes the carefree, nomadic spirit of camping and a return to a true wilderness
experience. Resting lightly on the land are six tented safari homes, each a private, contemporary micro camp inviting deep engagement with the southern Kalahari in all its unfettered, changeable beauty. Enjoy further game-viewing activities here, and luxuriate in the extraordinary experience that is Tswalu.
Day 7 : Tswalu > Johannesburg or Cape Town
Light aircraft transfer to either Johannesburg or Cape Town, where arrangements end.
Malori Sleep-Out Deck
The Malori is Tswalu’s ‘under canvas’ experience with comfortable beds, an open-air bathroom and a spacious deck area for dining, dreaming and stargazing. An optional night at the Malori is an additional cost, and it is advisable to pre-book.
