What is a tailor-made itinerary (also known as independent travel)?
Tailor-made itineraries are designed to suit your interests, budget and time available, often including bespoke experiences, places and attractions. Whether travelling alone (solo travellers), as a couple, a family, or a group of friends, the travel is custom-made for you and your preferences. We include airport transfers, all accommodation, sightseeing with local guides and all transport, making ‘independent’ travel stress-free!
Are there set departure dates for your itineraries?
Most tailor-made itineraries can be booked on any date, but some itineraries have set departure dates due to specific seasons or availability – such as itineraries based around a cruise or rail journey. We’re happy to advise the best time to go.
Are flights included?
Most of our tailor-made itineraries do not include the cost of international flights, but usually connecting flights within a destination are included – it’s best to check under ‘inclusions’.
Can I change parts of the itineraries on your website?
Most of the tailor-made itineraries on our website are just examples of what can be done. Our Travel Designers can adapt these journeys to fit your budget, time and desired activities, and will provide a new quote.
What does a World Journeys Travel Designer do?
Our Travel Designers are a dedicated team of specialists who have extensive personal experience in our destinations. They delight in using that expertise to design your ultimate itinerary, with plenty of personal recommendations based on their own experiences.
What is a hosted journey?
Hosted journeys – also known as escorted journeys or escorted tours – offer the option to travel with a small group of like-minded people, accompanied by a host. Our hosted journeys have set departure dates, are guaranteed to go, have a maximum group size of 18 people (no minimum). Tipping is included and of course a host who is there to smooth the way, along with expert local guides at each destination who add authentic flavour to the experience. Should you wish to extend your trip at either end of a hosted journey, this is easily arranged. Contact our Travel Designers for further details.
What does a World Journeys host do?
A World Journeys host accompanies the group throughout, taking care of tipping, working with local guides and making sure everything goes according to plan. Our experienced hosts are chosen for their convivial personalities, their passion for travel, and often for their particular love of the destination you have chosen.
What is the typical age group on hosted journeys?
Our hosted journeys are open to all ages, but the majority of guests are aged 55-plus. Many travel as couples, others share-twin with a friend, and some opt for single arrangements.

How fit do I need to be?
Regardless of the journey, a minimum level of fitness is required. Wherever you go, an amount of walking will be required – whether it’s up the steps to a temple, around a museum, along cobbled streets in an Old Town or even just at the airport! Our Travel Designers are happy to answer questions about this. However, if you are concerned about any health or mobility issues, we highly recommend contacting your GP for professional advice before booking with us.
Can I book a World Journeys trip with my Travel Agent?
Absolutely! Your travel agent will be able to take care of your booking with us, book your flights, and be your first point of contact.
How soon should I be planning and book my next trip?
It all depends on the destination, time of year and the activities you have planned. Places with short seasons, such as Antarctica, or more exclusive experiences such as our luxury safaris and rail journeys, have limited availability and fill up quickly. Booking early gives you the best chance of the departure date, the cabin category or safari lodge you want.
What are the terms and conditions?
We recommend you read the Terms & Conditions on our website before booking, so you’re aware of issues such as deposits, final payments, cancellation fees, health & medical requirements etc.
