Introduction
Journey from Istanbul to Cappadocia, exploring the sights and tastes of Turkey.
From bustling cities with intricate palaces and grand bazaars, to the rich history of the Gallipoli Peninsula, the ancient city of Troy, the ruins of Hierapolis, and finally, the breathtaking lunar landscape of Cappadocia.
Itinerary
Day 1 : Istanbul
On arrival in Istanbul you will be met at the airport and transferred to your hotel.
Day 2 : Istanbul
Istanbul is a captivating city where East meets West with a rich history, stunning architecture, and a mix of traditional and modern culture. Join your guide to visit Topkapi Palace, the beautiful Hagia Sophia, the iconic Blue Mosque with its beautiful Iznik tiles, the Hippodrome, and the exotic bustle of the Grand Bazaar.
Day 3 : Istanbul > Gallipoli > Canakkale
Drive along the shores of the Sea of Marmara to the Gallipoli Peninsula. Visit the poignant and significant sites of Anzac Cove and Lone Pine Cemetery. Cross the Dardanelles and drive to the sea port city of Canakkale.
Day 4 : Canakkale > Troy > Pergamum > Izmir > Kusadasi
Travel to the city of Izmir on the coast of the Aegean Sea and visit the ancient city of Troy, famous for its Trojan Horse. Continue to Pergamum, once a rich and powerful city of Ancient Greece, before driving to the beach resort town of Kusadasi.
Day 5 : Kusadasi > Ephesus > Kusadasi
Today, visit the ancient city of Ephesus, perhaps the greatest historical site in Asia Minor. Explore the Celsius Library, Marble Street and the amphitheater that could seat 24,000, and conclude the day with a stop at the House of St Mary and the Greek village of Sirince.
Day 6 : Kusadasi > Pamukkale
Drive to Pamukkale, famous for its natural limestone formations. Visit the ruins of Hierapolis and see the world-famous “cotton castle”.
Day 7 : Pamukkale > Konya
Drive to the old capital of the Anatolian Seljuk Empire, home to the mystic Whirling Dervish sect. Visit the Mevlana Museum to learn about this fascinating practice.
Day 8 : Konya > Cappadocia
After breakfast, drive to the lunar landscape of Cappadocia. This evening enjoy a performance of Whirling Dervishes with dinner.
Day 9 : Cappadocia
Today explore the Goreme Open Air Museum (a UNESCO World Heritage Site) with its unique complex of rock-cut churches. View the incredible rock formations of the Devrent Valley and Pasabagi, plus the incredible ancient underground settlement of Ozkonak. Lastly visit the town of Avanos, famous for it’s clay pottery. The option (additional cost) of a hot air balloon ride may be possible today.
Day 10 : Cappadocia > Istanbul
Transfer to Kayseri Airport for your flight to Istanbul, where your journey ends.
