Introduction
The Great Bear Rainforest of British Columbia is quite simply the largest piece of intact temperate rainforest left on the planet.
It is here in the Great Bear Rainforest that the Kitasoo/Xai’xais First Nation have called home for thousands of years. They have shared the forest and the salmon with a very special creature they call Moskgm’ol (white bear).
Spirit Bear Lodge is Indigenous owned, offering exclusive access to wildlife viewing areas and cultural sites within the Kitasoo Xai’xais traditional territory. Located 150 nautical miles by float plane north of Port Hardy and the northern tip of Vancouver Island, Klemtu is truly in the heart of the rainforest. Nestled in a remote archipelago of small islands and thus protected from the wild Pacific, Klemtu is centrally positioned to offer unparalleled access to some of the best grizzly and spirit bear viewing in the region. Search for grizzly bears, black bears, and spirit bears in pristine river valleys. Spot whales, porpoise, sea lions, and much more while exploring the Great Bear Sea. Find a transformative experience while local staff share their intimate knowledge of this complex eco system and guide your adventure into the untouched wilderness of the Great Bear Rainforest.
After a day of wildlife viewing, share stories with fellow guests in “The Great Room”, a cosy lounge area with comfy couches and 20-foot high ocean view windows. Enjoy the serenity and silence as you revel in the natural wonders of the pristine and raw landscape that surrounds you in this unique culturally authentic accommodation. Architecturally, the exterior of the Spirit Bear Lodge pays homage to the traditional long houses built for thousands of years. The rooms in the Spirit Bear Lodge are spacious with a King sized bed or a pair of twin beds, and private bathroom. Every room shares the same stunning ocean view and are the perfect place to relax after each day’s adventure.
