Itinerary
Day 1 : Tokyo
On arrival at Tokyo’s Narita Airport, you will be welcomed and transferred to your hotel by Narita Express rail service and local taxi.
Day 2 : Tokyo
Enjoy a full day private tour of Tokyo. Visit the Tsukiji Outer Market, followed by a hands-on sushi making experience and lunch. In the afternoon, stop at the Imperial Palace Plaza before continuing to Asakusa to see the temple and stroll the atmospheric Nakamise shopping street.
Day 3 : Tokyo
Another full day of exploring Tokyo with your private guide. Visit Meiji Jingu Shrine, Tokyo’s most famous Shinto shrine. Then continue to the colourful and quirky Harajuku and Omotesando Street, full of trendy cafes and restaurants. You will also see the Shibuya Crossing, a popular pedrestrian crossing and considered one of the busiest in the world. Finish the day at the TeamLab Borderless Digital Art Museum, an amazing multi-sensory experience.
Day 4 : Tokyo
Meet your private guide this morning to explore some of Tokyo’s unique neighbourhoods. In the morning you have the choice of a two hour walking tour of Kagurazaka – better known as Tokyo’s “Little Paris”, or a two hour manga lesson at a school in Nakano. Afterwards, enjoy a walk through “Nakano Manga Town”, followed by time in Akihabara, the city’s original Electric Town – find various electronics retailers, ranging from tiny stalls to vast department stores.
Day 5 : Tokyo > Hakone
Today you can prepare a smaller overnight bag for your stay in Hakone, and your main luggage will be sent by overnight transfer to Kyoto. Your morning is at leisure in Tokyo.
Later this afternoon, you will be transferred to the station for your express train to Hakone Yumoto. You will be welcomed on the platform by your driver and transferred by private vehicle to your ryokan. Over the next two nights, you will have one room for the family to share, with beautiful dinners included.
Day 6 : Hakone
Join your guide for a full day private tour of the Hakone area. Ride the Hakone Ropeway for spectacular views, see the volcanic Owakudani Valley and cruise Lake Ashi. Finish with a unique hands-on woodblock craft box workshop.
Day 7 : Hakone > Kyoto
This morning you will be privately transferred to the station for your bullet train ride to Kyoto. On arrival, you will be welcomed on the platform by an assistant, who will help you drop off your overnight luggage at your hotel. You will then transfer by local taxi to a machiya (traditional townhouse) for your obento cooking lesson. After creating your own Japanese style bento box of food, savour your creation for lunch. The rest of your time is free at leisure.
Day 8 : Kyoto > Nara & Osaka > Kyoto
Meet your guide this morning for a full day tour of Nara and Osaka by private vehicle. In Nara, see the Daibutsu (Great Buddha) in Todaiji Temple, and meet the city’s famous deer at Nara Park. In Osaka, you will visit Osaka Castle and be introduced to Osaka’s incredible food culture on a street food walking tour.
Day 9 : Kyoto
On today’s full day private tour, admire the golden Kinkakuji temple before watching the antics of the wild macaques at the Arashiyama monkey park and visiting Nijo Castle. Your day finishes with a unique Japanese experience of your choice – choose from a samurai lesson, kintsugi experience or being a maiko experience.
Day 10 : Kyoto > Kansai Airport
Today make your way to Kyoto Station and travel by Haruka express train to Kansai Airport, where arrangements conclude.
