Our independent tour will introduce you to just some of Portugal’s finest delights; sample port wine in the Douro Valley, enjoy the breathtaking views and fairy tale delights of Sintra, explore gorgeous Lisbon and relax in the Aletejo region – all in luxury and style.
Itinerary
Day 1 : Porto
On arrival, transfer to your hotel in the heart of the city. Afternoon at leisure to relax and explore.
Day 2 : Porto
Join your guide for a panoramic view of Porto. Visit some of the city’s key historic sites; the Romanesque Cathedral, the Palácio da Bolsa and the beautiful São Bento railway station, whose walls tell the
history of Portugal through more than 20,000 tiles. Explore the neighbourhood of Praca, with its winding, cobbles streets, the architecturally impressive Avenida dos Aliados, call in at São Francisco church, a fine example of Baroque ornamentation, and visit the historic Livraria Lello bookstore.
Day 3 : Porto > Lamego
Head north into the Douro Valley stopping for a traditional cooking experience for lunch in a family home. Check into your luxury hotel, surrounded by vineyards and olive groves.
Day 4 : Lamego
Spend a full day exploring the hills and vineyards of the Douro Valley and tasting wines at some of the region’s best producers. Join a shared Rabelo boat, a traditional Portuguese wooden cargo boat, and cruise the Douro River, enjoying lunch at a local restaurant.
Day 5 : Lamego > Sintra
Depart the Douro Valley this morning and make your way south to Sintra. On arrival check in to your hotel and the remainder of the day is at leisure to explore independently.
Day 6 : Sintra
Join your guide for a tour of Sintra, visiting the Sintra National Palace or the beautiful Quinta de Regaleria . Drive along the scenic coastal road to Cascais, enjoying wonderful views of the Atlantic Ocean.
Day 7 : Sintra > Lisbon
Drive to Lisbon and check in to your hotel. This afternoon is at your leisure.
Day 8 : Lisbon
This afternoon meet your guide for a tour of the city. Wander the streets of central Lisbon, tasting local delicacies along the way. Then drive to Belem, from where Vasco da Gama set sail. See Jeronimos Monastery and Torre de Belem before returning to your hotel.
Day 9 : Lisbon > Monsaraz
Head east into the Alentejo region. Visit Evora, known for its Roman ruins, gothic cathedral and Moorish alleyways. Following a walking tour with your guide, continue to your hotel deep in the Alentejo countryside.
Days 10 & 11 : Monsaraz
Days at leisure will give you time to cycle through the area, tour local vineyards, try star gazing in the observatory, relax with a spa treatment or simply enjoy the facilities of your lovely hotel.
Day 12 : Monsaraz > Lisbon
Transfer to Lisbon airport.
