Introduction
With a focus on culture and gastronomy, this is an in depth yet relaxed exploration of Croatia and its lesser-known neighbour, Montenegro.
Croatia’s beautiful coast and Adriatic islands are a sun-dappled delight, dotted with ancient towns and charming villages, a backdrop for delicious cuisine including the freshest of seafood and local wines. In Montenegro enjoy fishing, swimming and a day cruise in beautiful Boka Bay. The fortified island of Sveti Stefan will be a highlight.
Itinerary
Day 1 : Split
On arrival at the airport in Split, you will be welcomed and transferred to your hotel for check-in. The remainder of the day is at your leisure.
Day 2 : Split
You will be taken to the ancient Diocletian’s Palace for an exclusive food tour featuring precious delights from a Roman feast. Sample traditional prosciutto and cheeses from inland Croatia, handmade pasta with truffles and local seafood accompanied by southern Croatian red and white wines. Afterwards, explore the magnificent town of Split and its numerous archaeological, historical and cultural sites with your private guide.
Day 3 : Split > Pakleni Islands > Hvar
This morning, transfer by private motorboat to the Pakleni Islands and Hvar. Visit the crystal clear waters, hidden beaches and deserted lagoons of the Pakleni Islands, a gorgeous chain of wooded isles that stretches out immediately in front of Hvar town. Make a stop at Vis Island before dropping anchor in a secluded bay. Then pass Marina Palmižana on the island of St. Klement, which is known as one of the most beautiful marinas in the Adriatic. Continue to the stunning centre of Hvar town with its cobbled streets, and check-in to your hotel.
Day 4 : Hvar
Today is free at leisure to relax on the island of Hvar, known as the sunniest spot in all of Croatia. Discover the charming town of Hvar with its cobbled streets, listen to the stories of lavender producers, relax on the beach, and enjoy excellent wines and Mediterranean cuisine.
Day 5 : Hvar > Dubrovnik
Today drive along the island of Hvar and take in the panoramic views. Stops can be made along the way if you would like to purchase any of the local delicacies, such as olive oil, lavender products and wine. After the ferry transfer from Sucuraj to Drvenik, drive towards Dubrovnik via the medieval city of Ston. Here you will visit an oyster farm and taste oysters and other local food in Bota Sare restaurant. On arrival in Dubrovnik, check-in at your hotel.
Day 6 : Dubrovnik > Herceg Novi (Montenegro)
Enjoy a morning tour of Dubrovnik, visiting the city’s main attractions. Completed in the 13th century, the old city of Dubrovnik has remained basically unchanged. Its medieval ramparts encircle the city which pedestrians can enter through one of two gates under the watchful gaze of the city’s patron Saint Blaise (Vlaho), to find themselves joining the evening promenade down the broad, stone-paved avenue known as Stradun. In the afternoon, transfer towards Herceg Novi in Montenegro and check-in to your hotel.
Day 7 : Kotor Bay
Start the day with scenic drive above Kotor Bay to Lovcen, the striking black mountain that gave Montenegro its name. Visit the mausoleum of Petar II Petrovic Njegoš, a shrine to Montenegro’s famous prince-bishop, poet and philosopher. Take your time and walk up the 461 stairs for stunning views over the bay. Continue to historic Cetinje, founded in 15th century, and make a quick stop at Sveti Štefan, a restored village attached to the mainland by a narrow isthmus. Continue to Budva and explore the town. You will have free time this evening to discover the local Montenegrin cuisine by having dinner in one of the restaurants before returning to your hotel in Herceg Novi.
Day 8 : Kotor Bay > Herceg Novi
Discover the UNESCO-protected Kotor Bay on a private half-day boat tour. Experience the natural landscapes, mountains, caves, beaches and historic sites, such as the artificial island of Our Lady of the Rocks in Perast and enjoy a swim in the Blue Cave. Return to shore where the remainder of the afternoon is at your leisure.
Day 9 : Herceg Novi > Tivat Airport
Today you will be transferred to Tivat Airport for your departure flight.
