Introduction
Prague is a magical city of bridges, cathedrals, gold-tipped towers and church spires.
Since the Middle Ages Prague has been reputed as one of the most beautiful cities in the world. The city was founded in the Romanesque era and flourished in the Gothic and Renaissance periods. It was once the seat of two Holy Roman Emperors, later becoming an important city to the Habsburg Monarchy. After WWI it became the capital of Czechoslovakia, and in 1993 Prague became the capital of the new Czech Republic. Because Prague wasn’t severely damaged during WWII, many of its most impressive historical buildings remain today, a breathtaking mix of architecture that is hard to find anywhere else in Europe.
Itinerary
Day 1 : Prague
Upon arrival you will be collected from the airport and transferred to your accommodation. The rest of the day is at your leisure.
Day 2 : Prague
Today you will be collected for your tour of the Castle District. You will visit The Strahov Monastery, one of the oldest in the country with a riveting history and its famous brewery. Then observe panoramic views over Prague from the viewpoint before walking down through the district where you will see buildings intimately tied to the history of the castle. You will see places such as the Loreta pilgrimage complex, Cernin Palace, and Schwarzenberg Palace. The castle is said to be the biggest castle in the world, and its history stretches back to the 9th century. The castle is a vast complex of palaces, churches and other treasures. Walk through the courtyards and see architectural highlights like the Royal Palace, St George’s Basilica, and St Vitus Cathedral, which is arguably one of Europe’s most beautiful churches. After your tour, return to your hotel.
Day 3 : Cesky Krumlov
Today you will be taken on a day tour of Cesky Krumlov and a walking tour of its heritage town. This unique urban town is located in Southern Bohemia and is bisected by the Vltava River. Here you will find treasures of medieval architecture and charming character. The town is dominated by two national landmarks, the Cesky Krumlov Castle and the Gothic church of St Vitus. After your day trip, you will return back to Prague.
Day 4 : Prague
Today enjoy a walking tour of Prague’s Old Town, beginning at the Old Town Square and following on to the Jewish Quarter. The Old Town Square features the Church of Our Lady before Tyn and Prague Orloj, which is the medieval astronomical clock located on the Old Town Hall which is the oldest one in operation. The Baroque St. Nicholas Church is also located in the square. The Jewish Quarter’s history dates back to the 13th century, and although a number of buildings have been lost to the structural changes of times past, most of the significant buildings have been saved from destruction and form the best preserved complex of historical Jewish Monuments in European history. Later in the day enjoy a private river cruise in a small wooden boat on the Vltava River with your private guide. From the boat you will travel past lovely views such as Castle Hill and the National Theatre. Afterwards return back to your hotel.
