Introduction
Itinerary
Day 1 : Longyearbyen
Upon arrival at the airport, a private driver will transfer you to your hotel. Longyearbyen is renowned for its unique Arctic environment and it’s a fascinating destination for adventure seekers and nature enthusiasts.
Day 2 : Longyearbyen
Your day begins with a guided tour of Longyearbyen, offering a fascinating glimpse into the town’s history and culture. The journey starts with a stop at the iconic polar bear sign, a must-see symbol of Svalbard, before continuing into Adventdalen, passing the town’s dog kennels and heading up to Mine 7, a coal mining facility, and the Northern Lights Observatory. The tour proceeds to Coal Mine 3, passing Hotellneset near the airport, with a brief stop at the Seed Vault, an essential global conservation project.
Mining in Longyearbyen began in the early 1900s and played a pivotal role in shaping the town’s economy and culture. At Mine 3, you’ll have the opportunity to explore the tunnels and experience the challenging conditions miners endured. Along the way, you might make an additional stop to observe reindeer in their natural habitat.
Day 3 : Longyearbyen
This morning you will get picked up and taken to the dog yard, located about 10 km outside Longyearbyen. Here, you’ll find enthusiastic sled dogs eagerly waiting for your arrival. After dressing in a warm exposure suit, boots, and mittens, you’ll assist the guide in harnessing the dogs. The dog sled experience lasts about one and a half hours, with several stops along the way to give the dogs water and capture memorable photos. Once back at the kennel, relax in a cosy log cabin with a hot drink and freshly made waffles, and enjoy some cuddles with the newest litter of puppies. After this heart-warming experience, you’ll be dropped off back at your hotel.
In the afternoon, your guide will pick you up at the hotel and drive you to a nearby kayak storage facility by the sea. After gearing up with your personal kayaking equipment, you’ll set out for an unforgettable experience on the fjord. Along the way, you’ll take breaks to learn about the fascinating history of mining in Longyearbyen and Hiorthamn, located on the opposite side of the fjord. As you paddle, keep an eye out for birds gliding on the water’s surface, adding to the serene atmosphere. Sitting in a kayak offers a unique and intimate perspective, bringing you close to the water and the surrounding natural beauty. Your guide will share captivating stories about the landmarks you pass, enriching the experience. After a fulfilling journey on the fjord, you’ll return to town and be transferred to your hotel.
Day 4 : Longyearbyen
Your day begins with a bus pickup from your hotel, taking you to the harbour where the hybrid electric catamaran MS Bard awaits for your glacier adventure. During the tour, you’ll also glimpse the ghost town of Pyramiden from a distance and pass Skansbukta, a bay rich in fascinating history. Svalbard’s conditions vary greatly throughout the year, offering unique experiences depending on the season. Whether you’re exploring under the Midnight Sun in May or during the encroaching Polar Night in October, you can expect unforgettable moments surrounded by Svalbard’s stunning natural beauty.
In the evening, a bus will pick you up from your hotel for an excursion to Adventdalen. After a short drive you’ll arrive at your comfortable camp, located just outside town. Inside the cosy cabin, gather around a large campfire and enjoy drinks, homemade reindeer stew, coffee, and dessert. Following the meal, it’s time to learn about the King of the Arctic — the polar bear. Your host will share fascinating facts, personal stories, and photos of Svalbard’s most famous resident. After the talk, you’ll have the chance to take photos of the stunning surrounding landscape. Often, wildlife such as Svalbard reindeer, grouse or foxes can be spotted nearby. Later, return to Longyearbyen.
Day 5 : Longyearbyen
