Itinerary
Day 1 : Arusha
On arrival into Kilimanjaro International Airport you will be met and transferred to Arusha Coffee Lodge, one hour’s drive from Kilimanjaro itself. Situated on the foothills of Mount Meru, Arusha Coffee Lodge nestles within one of Tanzania’s largest working coffee plantations. Characterized by plantation-style home comfort and with luxurious guest amenities, Arusha Coffee Lodges’ Plantation Suites are a haven for calm and composure before or after a safari. On arrival at the Lodge enjoy a refreshing coffee-infused welcome drink. Enjoy a stay in your luxurious suite surrounded by the ever-present coffee trees of the plantation. Both dinner and breakfast can be taken in your Plantation Suite or enjoyed in the Plantation Restaurant, the Coffee Lodge Garden or the Bar.
Days 2 & 3 : Tarangire National Park
After enjoying a delicious breakfast, take a fascinating ‘Bean-to-Cup’ Walking Tour (optional) around the coffee estate to learn how the humble coffee bean is grown, harvested, processed and eventually ends up in your morning cup of coffee. Following this optional tour you will once again return to enjoy a light lunch at the Lodge, after which you will be transferred the short one-mile journey to the Arusha airstrip where the Executive Cessna Grand Caravan awaits to begin your SkySafari. Fast-tracked into the airport, you will be greeted by your pilot who will invite you aboard and take you on a 20-minute flight to Tarangire National Park. From the air you will be treated to an exceptional and rare view of the shapes and colours of the landscape below and, as the bush draws near, begin to spy the wealth of wildlife that awaits in Tarangire.
On landing at Tarangire airstrip, you will be met by the Tarangire Treetops guide and a ‘special’ welcome in the form of a finger buffet, soft drinks and chilled sparkling wine. The transfer to Tarangire Treetops includes a fascinating game-drive through the famed Tarangire National Park, a dramatically beautiful and diverse eco system, boasting more than 3,000 elephants – one of the largest concentrations in East Africa. These herds of elephant are easily encountered, wet or dry. The swamps, tinged green year round, are the focus for 550 bird varieties, the most breeding species in one habitat anywhere in the world.
This evening have dinner in a traditional Maasai boma. This evening will introduce you not only to traditional African fare prepared by the Executive Chef and his team, but also to the sights and sounds of the Maasai who visit the Boma to entertain all the guests with songs and dances that have been passed down from generation to generation. The next morning enjoy a game drive after breakfast and, in the afternoon, a bush walk and visit to a Maasai village followed by sundowners on top of a hilly outcrop of granite, quartz and mica, known as Sunset Hill. Here enjoy a Sundowner Cocktail whilst the sun sets over the distant but shimmering Lake Manyara. And as the dying sun creates a rich palette of reds and oranges, thousands of stars begin their nightly efforts to illuminate the darkening landscape. As night draws in, begin a night game drive back to the distant glowing lights of Tarangire Treetops. On your return, some of the resident animals are also arriving in from the bush to drink from the waterhole that lies less than 50 metres from the main lodge.
Days 4 – 6 : Ngorongoro
After breakfast, enjoy one more morning game drive through Tarangire National Park. Have a picnic lunch on your way to the airstrip before a short flight to Manyara airstrip. Following a short but comfortable transfer to The Manor at Ngorongoro, high tea awaits at this beautiful and magnificent homestyle lodge set in a lush and verdant Arabica coffee plantation. You will then be transferred to your very own Manor Cottage to unpack, unwind and relax before being invited back to the Main House for evening dinner. And for those who wish to explore, the swimming pool, spa, games room and stables await discovery.
On your first full day at The Manor enjoy a game drive to Lake Manyara National Park, with the afternoon free to relax, swim in the pool, horseback ride, take in a movie at the lodge’s own cinema or simply walk around the beautiful gardens.
The following day, after an early breakfast, you will travel to what undoubtedly is one of the ‘Natural Wonders of the World’ – The Ngorongoro Crater. Filmed and documented by naturalists from the four corners of the earth, the Ngorongoro Crater, the largest ‘dry’ caldera of its kind, is rich in wildlife. Large herds of zebra and wildebeest graze while sleeping lions laze in the sun. At dawn, the endangered black rhino returns to the thick cover of the crater forests after grazing on dew-laden grass in the morning mist. Just outside the crater’s ridge, tall Maasai tribesmen herd their cattle and goats over green pastures through the highland slopes, living alongside the wildlife as they have for centuries. Lunch is served in the Crater under an awning in a campaign-style luncheon. This spectacular setting at times belies belief. Whilst the resident hippos enjoy their daily bathe, and herds of zebra and wildebeest keep a wary eye out for any number of predators, you can sit and watch this ‘live’ show whilst enjoying a lovely picnic lunch. Following this exciting day, you will take the one-hour transfer back to The Manor for dinner.
Days 7 – 9 : Serengeti National Park
After breakfast at The Manor transfer to Manyara airstrip for a 45-minute flight to the world-renowned Serengeti National Park. On arrival enjoy a ‘special’ welcome before transferring to your accommodation at either Serengeti Pioneer Camp or Serengeti Migration Camp (depends on the season) in time for lunch and an afternoon game drive. Spend three nights in luxurious tented accommodation enjoying the drama and beauty of the Serengeti’s abundant wildlife – and for most of the year the amazing sight of the annual migration.
The annual migration involves over a million wildebeest – each one driven by the same ancient rhythm, fulfilling its instinctive role in the inescapable cycle of life: a frenzied three-week bout of territorial conquests and mating; survival of the fittest as 40km long columns plunge through crocodile-infested waters on the annual exodus north; replenishing the species in a brief population explosion that produces more than 8,000 calves daily before the 1,000 km pilgrimage begins again.
Waking up to the sounds of the hippos barking and splashing in the Grumeti River just 100 metres from the Camp, enjoy early breakfasts followed by full day game drives in the park with picnic lunches provided. The length of the drives depends on the season and the proximity to the Camp of the annual migratory animals.
Day 10 : Serengeti > Arusha
After breakfast, enjoy a final game drive en-route to the airstrip for your flight to Arusha During this 50-minute flight, you will be able to see the ever-changing landscape of the bush and the mountainous topography that reminds all who see it of Tanzania’s violent geological past.
On arrival at Arusha transfer to Arusha Coffee Lodge where a day room will be available depending on your outbound flight. Late in the day transfer to Kilimanjaro Airport for your departure flight.
