Introduction
Combine two of Tanzania’s undisturbed wilderness regions in Selous Game Reserve and Ruaha National Park.
Selous Game Reserve offers visitors a region teeming with a spectacular array of fauna and flora and was declared a World Heritage Site due to its dramatic landscapes and great diversity of wildlife. Ruaha epitomises ‘wild Africa’ in its most rugged, glorious form where you will explore the landscapes which are home to giant baobabs and the Park’s rich variety of elephant, buffalo, giraffe, zebra, impala, eland, hippo, crocodile, lion and leopard. Explore both these regions where you can immerse yourself in unspoiled nature, with just the right amount of bush luxury.
This itinerary can be tailor-made, with the number of days, places visited, and activities varied to suit you.
Itinerary
Day 1 : Dar es Salaam > Nyerere National Park
Upon arrival at Dar es Salaam International Airport you will be met and assisted with entry formalities, and escorted to the arrivals hall. You will be met by a local representative who will transfer you to the Domestic Airport for your scheduled light aircraft flight to Nyerere National Park. The Nyerere Game Reserve is home to the most exceptional and diverse wildlife, with more than half of Tanzania’s elephant population, over 40,000 hippos and the largest population of lion on the continent. Spend three nights at Siwandu Camp in your tented suite which is located in a grove of palms on the shore of Lake Nzerakera. As well as ensuring a stunning backdrop for the camp, this lakeshore location offers jaw-dropping game viewing with a great number of animals gravitating around the lake. It’s also the only place in East Africa where you can experience water-based game activities.
Days 2 & 3 : Nyerere National Park
Spend two full days enjoying the range of activities from the Camp. Climb on board one of the open sided 4WDs to explore the landscape and enjoy tales of wild encounters that your expert guide will share with you. If a leisurely boat cruise is more your thing, you can take to the water and wend your way along the Rufiji River tributaries; venture close and see the animals from a different perspective while you learn more about the fascinating life of water birds and the wonderful populations of hippo and crocodile. Or set your clock to experience the thrill of a dawn game walk and have the opportunity to track animals and engage with the smaller habitats and ecosystems. Don’t be daunted by the early start, there’s plenty of time to make up for it later by the pool, the perfect place to relax and enjoy a mid-afternoon siesta.
Day 4 : Nyerere National Park > Ruaha National Park
Depart on your scheduled light aircraft flight from Nyerere to Ruaha where the focal point of the reserve is the Great Ruaha River, with its deep gorges, swirling rapids and excellent fishing. Spend four nights at Jongomero Camp, a classic luxury tented camp, which is situated along the banks of the seasonal Jongomero River in the immaculate wilderness of Ruaha National Park.
Days 5 – 7 : Ruaha National Park
Whether you chose to explore by vehicle or on foot, the expert guides will ensure you enjoy the wealth of biodiversity Ruaha has to offer. Game drives around Jongomero are unique and cater for the safari connoisseur; the remote location of the camp means that it’s rare to view other guests or vehicles. Alternatively you can experience a dawn game walk during the dry season (park fee payable directly). With the African sun warming your back, you’ll navigate the parched riverbeds while your guide tells you fascinating, often bizarre stories, about the local flora, fauna, insects, birds and animals.
Day 8 : Ruaha National Park > Dar es Salaam
End your safari experience today with the flight back to Dar es Salaam where you may choose to extend your stay in Tanzania by visiting Zanzibar! On arrival at the Domestic Airport at Dar es Salaam, our representative will meet you and transfer you to the International Airport with assistance for your check-in.
