Itinerary
Day 1 : Ivalo > Nangu
On arrival at Ivalo Airport you will be met and take a shared transfer to the Wilderness Hotel Nangu. Nangu is the perfect combination of traditional Lappish style and northern luxury. Enjoy the pristine nature and clean air in this unforgettable place with cosy log cabin style accommodation and friendly staff. The adventurous safaris will make sure your Arctic holiday is one to remember.
Day 2 : Nangu
This morning visit a Sami village and prepare to meet both reindeer and huskies, promising delightful encounters throughout the day, offering fascinating insights into Sámi culture and the northern way of life. Step inside the reindeer enclosure as your knowledgeable guide shares tales of Sámi traditions and the intricate rhythms of a reindeer’s life throughout the seasons. You will have a chance to feed the reindeer – these curious animals might even come up and eat out of your hand!
Later, on a Husky Safari, you’ll receive expert instruction on sledding techniques before embarking on a thrilling ride. Huskies will pull your sled through breathtaking winter landscapes, including the frozen splendor of Lake Inari. The dogs’ excitement is infectious and as the animals fall silent on the trail, you will realize that this is the only way to see Lapland.
Day 3 : Nangu
This afternoon head out on a snowmobile safari. First you will get familiar with the snowmobile with your guide, before heading out for a small journey in the nearby surroundings.
This evening brings an exciting snowshoeing experience in the Nangu woods and surrounding Lake Inari. On reaching a camp spot, enjoy warm drinks and gaze at the sky hoping for a possible Northern Lights show before heading back to your cosy hotel.
NB: Snowmobile safaris are based on two people sharing one snowmobile. If there is an uneven number of travellers, everyone will still be on shared snowmobiles, unless a single drive supplement is paid. The driver of the snowmobile must be at least 18 years of age with a driver’s license valid in Finland. A self-liability fee (own risk) of EUR 1000 per snowmobile applies, in case of an accident.
Day 4 : Nangu > Saariselkä
After breakfast take a shared transfer to your hotel in Saariselka.
Day 5 : Saariselkä
This evening is all about the Northern Lights! In the silent, snow-covered forest on the edge of the boundless wilderness, with the magical Northern Lights above you, take a seat in a heated sleigh and enjoy. Your guide tows the sleigh with a snowmobile through the snowy, moon and starlit landscape, all the way to the top of the fell, far away from the residential areas and their light pollution. Wait for the Northern Lights to appear in comfort by the fire, enjoying hot drinks and listening to tales until someone spots the first flare. A truly special experience.
Day 6 : Saariselkä
This morning take a comfortable seat on the bus and travel leisurely through the village of Ivalo to Inari, stopping along the way to photograph the beautiful landscape on the shores of Lake Inari. Enjoy a guided tour of the Sami Museum Siida to learn of the history and way of life of the Sámi, the indigenous people of Lapland. After the tour, visit a handicraft shop where you can purchase beautiful local souvenirs. After lunch at their cosy restaurant, take a short walk to the snowy Juutuanjoki River, where the openly flowing rapids carve ornamental patterns into the surrounding ice.
Day 7 : Saariselkä > Ivalo
After breakfast at your hotel, you will take a private transfer to Ivalo Airport, where arrangements conclude.
