Itinerary
Day 1 : Labuan Bajo
Upon your arrival in Labuan Bajo on Flores Island in Indonesia, you will be warmly welcomed and transferred to your hotel. The remainder of the day is yours to enjoy at your leisure.
Day 2 : Labuan Bajo > Komodo National Park > Labuan Bajo
Travel to Komodo National Park with your travel expert who will then escort you on a two-hour trek with a local ranger, who intimately knows the island’s terrain. These expert guides will lead you to areas frequented by Komodo dragons, sharing insights into their habits and the coexistence of villagers with these majestic creatures. The Komodo dragon, part of the monitor lizard family Varanidae, is endemic to the Indonesian islands of Komodo, Rinca, Flores, and Gili Motang. Growing up to three metres long and weighing around 70 kg, these apex predators hunt by ambushing prey with a venomous bite. They have serrated teeth and powerful neck muscles to incapacitate prey.
After the trek, you will head to Kalong Island, a picturesque haven in the Komodo National Park, home to mangrove forests teeming with fruit bats. At sunset, witness a mesmerising spectacle as thousands of bats take flight in unison, painting the sky with their silhouettes. Afterwards, cruise back to the mainland.
Day 3 : Labuan Bajo
Today’s adventure begins with a 20-30 minute boat ride to a secluded beach nestled among mountains, leading to Rangko Cave. Visiting in the morning ensures fewer crowds. The cave’s crystal-clear seawater glows turquoise in the sunlight, offering a surreal backdrop for swimming or marvelling at the stalactites. Afterwards, we sail to a nearby small island, easily encircled within minutes, simulating the experience of being marooned on a deserted island. En route, observe baby corals being replanted. Komodo’s snorkelling ranks among the world’s finest, boasting over 1,000 fish species and 260 coral varieties, including rare marine mammals like dugongs. Enjoy lunch on the island before returning to your hotel in the late afternoon.
Day 4 : Labuan Bajo
Immerse yourself in Flores’ local culture with a traditional fishing experience. From an early age, boys learn to fish using basic equipment, relying on the sea for sustenance. The rich waters host over two thousand tropical fish species, with five per cent endemic to the region. After breakfast, meet the hotel’s boat captain for a speedboat ride to Waecicu Island. Engage with friendly fishermen, learning about their livelihoods and community roles. Set sail on a traditional boat to a favoured fishing spot, where you will learn traditional techniques. Spend the morning fishing, aiming to catch lunch. Return to shore to prepare the catch with a local family for a shared meal before heading back to the hotel.
Day 5 : Labuan Bajo
After breakfast, enjoy some leisure time before being transferred to the airport where your journey concludes.
