Introduction
Haida Gwaii, formerly known as the Queen Charlotte Islands, is an archipelago off the northwest coast of British Columbia.
The islands are remote and serene and offer visitors the opportunity to visit pristine rivers, miles of sandy beaches and ancient rainforests which are home to abundant wildlife. Experience the rich traditions, artisans and history of the Haida people as you immerse yourself into the stunning landscapes and its people.
Haida House
The Haida House at Tllaal is a cedar lodge located on the banks of the Tlell River with easy beach access. The lodge features a full service restaurant, bar and patio with river view; nine comfortable guests rooms with private facilities and showers along with a relaxing den with complimentary Wi-Fi.
Itinerary
Day 1 : Vancouver > Masset > Haida House at Tllaal
Fly from Vancouver to Masset. On arrival you will be transferred to the Haida House at Tllaal. Following a warm welcome and guest orientation session, enjoy a gourmet west coast dinner. Before or after dinner you will have time to walk along the long sandy beach or explore the 50-acre property.
Day 2 : Haida House at Tllaal
Start your day with breakfast before departing for HlGaagilda Skidegate via a scenic drive along the coast. Upon arrival, you will be led on a private interpretive tour of the award-winning Kay Llnagaay Heritage Centre and Museum, followed by a visit to a local Haida artisan’s studio or carving shed.
Day 3 : Haida House at Tllaal
Today you have a choice of three special adventures:
-K’uuna Skedans Expedition: A Zodiac excursion to the village site of K’uuna. Welcomed by a Haida Watchman, you will be guided through the site and learn the history of the village, what the poles represent, and how the people lived.
-Hlk’yah GawGa Windy Bay Tour: This day tour takes you to beautiful Gwaii Haanas National Park Reserve and Haida Heritage Site. Learn the story behind the park’s creation and view the Legacy Pole.
-Gandll K’in Hot Springs Tour: Visit Hotsprings Island and take the opportunity to soak in the ancient natural hot springs; a long-time destination for those seeking healing and replenishment. The surrounding intertidal environment is unique, beautiful and fascinating.
Day 4 : Haida House at Tllaal
Today explore the area surrounding Tlell on the Magical History Tour, enjoying moderate, relaxed hiking while learning more about the area’s rich ecology, paleontology, and geological history. Or you may participate in a privately-led class with a renowned Haida weaver, learning a few Haida words while you create your very own woven treasure. You will also visit the quaint village of Gamadiis Port Clements and embark on a spiritual forest walk to the viewpoint of the historic Golden Spruce. Following this, sample some homemade baked goods at a popular local bakery.
Day 5 : Haida House at Tllaal > Masset > Vancouver
After a delicious breakfast, it is time to say farewell and make your check-out arrangements. Transfer by shuttle to the airport, where you will board your flight back to Vancouver.
