Introduction
The Yucatan Peninsula in southeast Mexico will captivate you with its idyllic coastline and a lingering ancient culture still alive today.
Begin in the charming colonial city of Merida before journeying across the peninsula to the coastal city of Cancun. Stay at beautiful and lovingly-restored haciendas from which you can tour the ancient Mayan sites of Uxmal, Kabah and Chichen Itza.
Itinerary
Day 1 : Merida
Arrive in Merida and transfer to the charming Hacienda Misine for the night.
Day 2 : Merida > Hacienda Sotuta de Peon
After a leisurely breakfast, you will be taken on a sightseeing tour of Merida, an interesting and cultural colonial city with influences ranging from the Maya, Spanish, French and British, all of which have played a part in the history of the Yucatan Peninsula. Included during the tour will be an overview of the city including the main square, cathedral, and Government Palace. After the tour, you will be transferred to the elegant Hacienda Sotuta de Peon, located 45 minutes from Merida.
Day 3 : Hacienda Sotuta de Peon
Enjoy a variety of optional experiences at the hacienda for an additional charge. The experiences on offer were carefully selected and designed to satisfy diverse tastes, from pleasant wellness experiences or guided tours of the organic garden to exciting ATV tours, horseback riding, and photo sessions.
Day 4 : Hacienda Sotuta de Peon > Uxmal & Kabah > Hacienda Santa Rosa
Leaving Sotuta de Peon, you are driven into the Puuc region of the Yucatan Peninsula. Puuc is a Mayan word meaning ‘hilly landscape’ and this region is home to two superb examples of Mayan civilization, the UNESCO Heritage listed ruins of Uxmal and Kabah, which are both rich in highly decorative temple architecture. Lunch will be at a local restaurant and late afternoon arrive at the delightful Hacienda Santa Rosa.
Day 5 : Hacienda Santa Rosa
Enjoy this former nobleman’s private estate, featuring uniquely carved columns, stunning gardens, and a wonderful ambience. Relax and enjoy the grounds and spa or undertake other optional activities the hacienda has on offer for an additional charge.
Day 6 : Hacienda Santa Rosa > Chichen Itza
Drive to Chichen Itza and here your guide will take you on a tour of this most important Mayan archaeological site. See the Pyramid of Kukulkan, the giant Pelota Ball Game Court, the Observatory, the Temple of the Warriors, and the Plaza of a Thousand Columns. Lunch is included and you may like to enjoy a swim in one of the crystal-clear sinkholes or ‘cenotes’ that this area is famous for before you check into the nearby Hacienda Chichen. This evening, there is an opportunity to experience the Light & Sound Show at Chichen Itza which is next door to the hacienda. The cost is paid locally for this event, which is closed on Mondays or in poor weather.
Day 7 : Chichen Itza > Caribbean Coast
Transfer to Cancun, Riviera Maya, Playa del Carmen/Playacar, or Tulum on the Caribbean coast where your arrangements end.
