Introduction
Enjoy the rich biodiversity of Costa Rica while staying in luxurious accommodation in some of the country’s most beautiful regions.
Enjoy bathing in hot mineral spring water that flow from deep inside the Arenal Volcano, an amazing mountain that has continuously erupted for more than 50 years! Be enchanted by the amazing birdlife in the cloud forest of Bajos del Toro, an environmental sanctuary on its own private natural reserve where you can enjoy many private walking trails.
Spend time in the Golfo Dulce, where the only access to your luxury lodge is by boat and from here you will enjoy the many national parks and water activities found in this area. Finally relax at your lovely coastal resort in Manuel Antonio National Park where you can enjoy beach time and swimming in the warm Caribbean waters, or perhaps some of the more adventurous activities on offer. Costa Rica is one of the most beautiful countries on earth, and certainly for lovers of nature, a ‘must see’.
This itinerary can be tailor-made, with the number of days, places visited, and activities varied to suit you.
Itinerary
Day 1 : San Jose
Upon your arrival you will be met and transferred to your hotel.
Day 2 : San Jose > Arenal Volcano
Depart San Jose this morning through the northern plains bound for the region close to the Arenal Volcano. Along the way pass by the agricultural plantations of La Fortuna, and if weather allows, enjoy a magnificent view of the impressive volcano. Arrive at your accommodation and spend two nights at the Tabacon Grand Spa where you can enjoy the hot springs and beautifully landscaped botanical gardens.
Day 3 : Arenal Volcano
Enjoy a variety of optional tour choices today (at additional costs) that range from hiking, canopy walks, boat rides, or just relax at the hot pools and wander the gardens. Should you enjoy adventurous activity, we highly recommend the Sky Tram which combines a hike to enjoy the beautiful scenery of Arenal Lake, and then a sky gondola which offers aerial views on the surrounding mountains. If you prefer a more relaxed activity, then we suggest the Sky Walk which explores the Arenal Rainforest on a 4Km trail of suspension bridges. This allows unparalleled views of the flora and fauna of the forest canopy. Any of these activities that may appeal are arranged locally and your hotel will assist you with this.
Day 4 : Arenal Volcano > Bajos del Toro
A scenic drive this morning as you journey to Bajos del Toro. This area is surrounded by the cloud forest which offers perhaps the richest bio-diverse environment found anywhere in the country. Spend the next two nights at the stunning El Silencio Lodge & Spa Hotel, one of the most secluded, tranquil and relaxing luxury hotels in the highlands of Costa Rica.
Day 5 : Bajos del Toro
Awake to melodious bird song in the morning and enjoy a guided walking tour after breakfast to include the hummingbird garden and the cloud forest trails. This is an ideal location to observe many species of hummingbirds, the endemic bird bell, the famous Quetzal and many other species who fly freely among ancient trees laden with orchids, bromeliads, mosses and ferns. The afternoon is at leisure to enjoy relaxing or participate in some of the optional activities on offer, some at additional cost.
Day 6 : Bajos del Toro > San Jose > Golfo Dulce
Today journey back to San Jose where you will take a short flight to the southern Pacific coastal region of Puerto Jimenez. On arrival transfer to your hotel which is only accessible by a 45-minute boat ride from which dolphins are often spotted. Spend three nights at Playa Cativo which emerges from the lush jungle and overlooks the tranquil turquoise and emerald waters of the Golfo Dulce. This intimate haven, harmoniously blended into spectacular surroundings, offers elegant accommodation, world-class amenities and a variety of activities – a blissful balance between relaxation and adventure.
Days 7 & 8 : Golfo Dulce
Enjoy two days of relaxing, or be as active as you wish. The use of snorkeling equipment and kayaking is included, and there are many walking trails and tropical gardens around the property that are rich in birdlife (including toucans and scarlet macaws) along with other wildlife including monkeys. The area offers different attractions such as the blue-green waters of Golfo Dulce, the biodiversity of Piedras Blancas National Park, beautiful beaches and the Osa Peninsula.
Day 9 : Golfo Dulce > Manuel Antonio
Return by boat back to the small port of Puerto Jimenez and transfer to Manuel Antonio, enjoying on the drive wonderful views of the Pacific beaches and if lucky, you can often spot whales and dolphins off the coast.
Manuel Antonio is a paradise that mixes lovely white sand beaches with jungle and rainforest rich with wildlife. It is one of the main attractions of Costa Rica and an icon of ecotourism in the country. Enjoy three nights at the Arenas del Mar Beachfront & Rainforest Resort, a glorious luxury boutique hotel that blends a beautiful beach with tropical forest. Enjoy your delightful Rainforest View Suite during your three night stay.
Day 10 : Manuel Antonio
Enjoy a visit to Manuel Antonio National Park (closed on Tuesdays; this day will be switched with Day 11 if it falls on a Tuesday). A great combination of lush tropical forests and beautiful beaches with crystal-clear waters. Within the National Park, there is a wide variety of vegetation, lagoons, mangroves, 109 species of mammals including the three-toed sloth, reptiles, beautiful butterflies and 184 bird species.
Day 11 : Manuel Antonio
This day is at your leisure to enjoy the hotel facilities or take an excursion (extra cost). Among other activities in the area are horseback riding, quad bike tours, surfing lessons, canopy walks, kayaking, fishing and mountain biking. Alternatively, just simply relax and enjoy the lovely pool at the hotel and the wonderful coastal views.
Day 12 : Manuel Antonio > San Jose
This morning you will transferred back to San Jose and be dropped the airport for your departure flights and the end of your Costa Rican adventure!
