Day 1: Arrive Cuzco You will be met and transferred to Belmond Palacio Nazarenas perfectly situated very close to the main square. Stay in a Junior Suite, located in the historic part of the hotel with evocative courtyard views, these suites feature a small sitting area with a dining table and chairs. Each spacious bathroom boasts underfloor heating and a unique Peruvian travertine marble decor. Upon request, oxygen-enriched air-conditioning can be supplied to your room to help you adjust to the altitude. You may also choose to have the space delicately scented with healing aromas of Andean flowers and herbs.
Day 2: Cuzco Enjoy a private Cuzco sightseeing tour that includes the most exquisite examples of Inca stonework found at Koricancha, which in Inca times was called the Temple of the Sun. Cuzco's beautiful cathedral is full of priceless art treasures and one of the most important churches in all Latin America. Continue to the impressive fortress of Sacsayhuaman situated on a hill overlooking the city. This was a very important ceremonial site in the Inca Empire and today is the scene of the ancient Inti Rami Festival held every winter solstice. The afternoon is free to explore Cuzco at your own pace.
Day 3: Cuzco > Sacred Valley > Cuzco A fascinating full day private tour to the scenic Sacred Valley of the Incas. Visit the traditional weavers at Chincheros and learn more of their craft, which remains almost unchanged since Inca times. Continue to the amazing centuries-old salt extraction ponds at Maras and the mysterious Inca site of Moray with its circular agricultural terraces. A delicious lunch incorporating local delicacies is enjoyed, along with a Peruvian Paso horse show, a cultural icon dating back to the days of the Spanish. Later you will be in awe of the magnificent Inca fortress at Ollantaytambo, scene of one of the last great battles between the conquistadors and the army of the Inca. Return to Cuzco for the night.
Day 4: Cuzco > Machu Picchu Enjoy luxury service aboard Belmond's Hiram Bingham train to Machu Picchu and on arrival you will be taken on a sightseeing tour of the citadel. Undiscovered until 1911, Machu Picchu more than justifies its title as one of the 'New Seven Wonders of the World'. Learn about the history, architecture and lifestyle of the inhabitants as your guide takes you on a full circuit of the site. There is free time for photography or simple contemplation of this amazing site before you return to nearby Aguas Calientes to stay overnight in an award-winning luxury hotel set in a lovely five-hectare garden. Perhaps enjoy an early evening dip in the hot mineral spring found at the hotel before dinner.
Day 5: Machu Picchu > Cuzco Your morning is at leisure to either revisit Machu Picchu (second entry at additional cost) or explore the town and markets of Aguas Calientes. There are also a number of free guided tours operated by your hotel this morning, including ones for those keen on birdwatching or orchids. Later in the afternoon board the Belmond Hiram Bingham luxury train bound for Cuzco. Enjoy a sumptuous four-course dinner with drinks and live entertainment on board. Overnight in the Belmond Palacio Nazarenas Hotel.
