Winemaking has existed in this region long before the Romans introduced it to France, Spain and Germany. Today Slovenia has more than 28,000 wineries and while we can't promise to introduce you to them all, we have chosen more traditional options for you to explore, taste and enjoy!
Day 1: Ljubljana > Maribor On arrival you will be met and transferred directly to Maribor for dinner and overnight.
Day 2: Stajerska Region Maribor, Slovenia's second city, is nestled in the foothills of Pohorje. Join your guide for a morning sightseeing tour of Maribor including Vinag wine cellar. Continue to Dveri Pax estate where they uphold an 800-year tradition of Benedictine winemaking. Return to Maribor for dinner in local restaurant and overnight.
Day 3: Prlekija & Jeruzalem After a leisurely start to the day, travel to Frangez Sparkling Wine House to visit the wine cellar and experience some of the best sparkling wines in the country. Continue to the town of Izakovci and visit the Island of Love. Visit the mill and cross the Mura River for a typical snack of roasted brown bread with homemade brandy. Drive to the village of Jeruzalem to visit Malek vineyard before returning to Maribor for dinner and overnight.
Day 4: Ljubljana Drive to the capital city, Ljubljana. Meet your guide for a tour of the city and a boat trip on the Ljubljanica river with a glass of sparkling wine. The afternoon is at leisure to explore before dinner in a local restaurant.
Day 5: Ljubljana > Goriska Brda > Nova Gorica Travel to the western wine growing region of Goriska Brda. View the tower of Gonjace and visit the charming medieval towns of Smartno and Medana. Visit a private wine producer and continue to Klet Brda winery, which unites 400 families who have been working together for over fifty years and have turned local wine making into a success story. After some time to relax, enjoy a delicious dinner accompanied by wines at local wine producer. Overnight in Nova Gorica.
Day 6: Nova Gorica > Karst Region > Portoroz The Karst region is known for its cultural and natural wonders but also for its excellent wines and prosciutto. Stop at Postojna to explore the caves before continuing to Lokev to meet a local prosciutto producer. End your day with another wine tasting at local producer before continuing to Portoroz for dinner and overnight.
Day 7: Slovenian Coast Visit Piran, a gem of Venetian Gothic architecture. In the afternoon travel to Dekani to visit the Bordon family wine cellar and enjoy tasting their wines, olive oil and snacks with homemade products. Drive to the peaceful village of Smarje for more wine tasting at Santomas wine cellar. Dinner this evening in a local restaurant before overnight in Portoroz.
Day 8: Portoroz > Ljubljana Transfer to Ljubljana Airport.
