Culture is the heartbeat of any country and Slovenia has had a thriving pulse for centuries. Enjoy a self-drive campervan journey through Slovenia's majestic countryside exploring the ancient traditions of the land along with some of her most stunning rivers, gorges, mountains and lakes.
Day 1: Ljubljana > Bled On arrival into Ljubljana, collect your camper and drive to Bled for overnight.
Day 2: Bled Your day begins with a short hike around Bled (this 3 hour hike requires a reasonable level of fitness). The path brings you near the banks of Lake Bled through small neighbouring villages before turning into the Vintgar gorge, dug by the Radovna river. It is one of the most visited natural monuments in Slovenia. The gorge ends with the Sum waterfall, the largest river cascade in Slovenia. In the afternoon take a traditional boat (pletna) to visit the islet in the middle of the lake where you also visit the church. Overnight in Bled.
Day 3: Bled > Soca Valley Drive to the Soca Valley, with its course dotted with waterfalls, rapids and narrow gorges cut in the rock. Try river rafting today! Visit Kobarid, the city of remembrance of the First World War and its museum. Climb to the Italian Ossuary on the hill overlooking Kobarid and stay overnight in Kobarid.
Day 4: Soca > Goriska Brda Continue along the river towards Nova Gorica visiting the wine region between the Alps and the Mediterranean. Meet your hiking guide to explore the beautiful landscape on foot. Pass villages with their typical churches and houses, and hills covered with vineyards, olive trees and orchards (this 4 hour hike requires a reasonable level of fitness). Lunch at local inn today and end your day with a visit to the local winemaker where you can learn the history of the wine tradition, and taste wines and other local products. Overnight in Nova Gorica.
Day 5: Goriska Brda > Slovenian Coast Start your day with a visit to a fish farm and the salt plains of Secovlje. You will be greeted by a biologist who will give you a short presentation of work on the farm before boarding the boat which will take you to the cultivation baths. Continue to the Secovlje National Park to see the salt marshes of Piran and visit Piran township, a small Mediterranean town in the Venetian style. Overnight in the Slovenian coastal area.
Day 6: Slovenian Coast > Skocjan > Predjama > Ljubljana Leave the coast and drive back towards the Slovenian capital. Stop at Skocjan and its huge karst caves containing underground waterfalls and vast halls. Continue to Predjama to see the castle suspended on the cliffside before ending in Ljubljana.
