A great independent itinerary to add to your Rocky Mountaineer or VIA Rail journey. Travel from Calgary to Jasper or vice versa and enjoy three nights exploring the hotspots. Highlights include exploring Banff and a ride on the gondola for an awe-inspiring 360 degree panorama of sheer mountain majesty. You'll also enjoy an Ice Explorer ride on the Athabasca Glacier and a stop at the award-winning Glacier Skywalk a glass-floored observation platform over spectacular glacier-formed valleys and rushing waterfalls. Enjoy stops at the stunning Lake Louise, Bow & Peyto Lakes. Along the way you may enjoy sightings of bear, elk, mooose & mountain sheep, so keep your camera handy.

Day 1. Calgary > Banff Leave the Stampede city of Calgary on the express coach service to Banff where you will have ample opportunity to take in the sights.

Day 2. Banff This morning, tour through the town of Banff and its environs. Among the highlights are visits to the Hoodoos (shaped by centuries of wind) & Bow Valley Viewpoint, Surprise Corner, Bow Falls, Lake Minnewanka and Bankhead: An abandoned mining town and relic of Banff's industrial past. At the end of the tour you will be taken to Banff Gondola for breathtaking ascent to the pinnacle of Sulphur Mountain for an awe-inspiring 360 degree panorama of sheer mountain majesty. Return to downtown Banff at your leisure. (Transfer not included)

Day 3. Banff > Jasper (L) Travel by coach today via one of the most scenic highways in North America - the Icefields Parkway. Visit the Columbia Icefield that covers an area of nearly 325 sq kms' and reaches a depth of 320 metres. Time allows for an (included) Ice Explorer ride on the Athabasca Glacier, then a stop at the award-winning Glacier Skywalk (included) to experience a glass-floored observation platform 918ft (280m) over spectacular glacier-formed valleys and rushing waterfalls. After, continue along the Icefield Parkway where stops will be made at Lake Louise, Bow & Peyto Lakes, the Crowfood Glacier and the Athabasca Falls. This highway is renowned for sightings of bear, elk, mooose & mountain sheep, so keep your camera handy. Please note: Mountain lakes in this region will be frozen through to mid June.

Day 4. Depart Jasper Upon check out of your hotel transfer by taxi (included) to the Rail Station.

Reverse Itinerary

Day 1. Arrive Jasper Upon arrival into Jasper transfer by taxi (included) to your selected hotel. The balance of the day is at leisure to explore this scenic mountain town.

Day 4. Banff > Calgary This morning is free to explore Banff, before your scheduled coach to Calgary departs at midday. Following the Trans Canada highway, depart the Rocky Mountains to the Great Central Plains that roll to the east for 2000 kilometres and extend as far as Mexico. This is 'cattle ranching country' and the breadbasket of Canada. Arrive Calgary mid afternoon with drop off at Calgary Airport or downtown hotels.
